Dorie Clark is a media consultant and professional speaker with extensive experience at the national, state, and local levels. Clark served as the New Hampshire Communications Director for Howard Dean’s presidential campaign, developing and executing his media strategy in the state and managing relations with local and national press. Previously, she was the Press Secretary for former U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich’s campaign for Massachusetts governor, securing coverage for the candidate, writing speeches, and serving as an on-the-ground press liaison. Clark worked as campaign manager for a successful Massachusetts State House race and has been a media consultant on a wide variety of campaigns.
Prior to her work as a communications specialist, Clark was a staff writer for the Boston Phoenix, covering local politics and policy and winning two New England Press Association awards. She was also a regular contributor to the Boston Globe, Boston magazine, and Commonwealth magazine.
Clark is the former Executive Director of the Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition, a successful non-profit environmental advocacy group. Under her leadership, membership doubled and MassBike won substantial policy victories with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, MassHighway, and the Municipal Police Training Committee. A former Board Member of the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, Clark was the City of Somerville’s Liaison to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Community. Clark has consulted for MassEquality, Massachusetts’ statewide GLBT political organization, and was a recipient of the Young Democrats of Massachusetts’ GLBT advocacy award. She has also worked for the public affairs/communications firm Denterlein Worldwide.
Clark has taught campaign management, media studies, and government at Emerson College, Tufts University, and Suffolk University. She has been quoted by media nationwide, including the New York Times, Boston Globe, Slate, CNN, the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, and more. She has appeared as a commentator on New England Cable News, WBZ News Radio 1030, WGBH television, and other venues, and is a media trainer for the grassroots advocacy group Democracy for America.
A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Smith College and Harvard Divinity School, Clark lives in Somerville, Massachusetts.
